The Green Acres Program, through the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, is offering a special funding opportunity for nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing outdoor recreation and conservation opportunities on property owned and managed by NJDEP. The Green Acres Program has supported the acquisition of open space and the development of outdoor recreation and conservation facilities since 1961, and it remains committed to preserving New Jersey’s natural, historic, and recreation resources statewide.
Recently passed legislation has recognized the vital role that many nonprofit organizations play in advancing the mission of NJ State Parks, Forests, and Historical Sites, Fish & Wildlife, and the Natural Land Trust. Nonprofit partners, like the NJ School of Conservation, help enhance state-owned lands that provide essential recreation and conservation opportunities across NJ.
The NJ School of Conservation will be submitting an application to the Green Acres Program, seeking $3 million in grant funding to support improvements around our campus, to better ensure our commitment of providing environmental and conservation education programs to the public, now and into the future. Grant funding through this program will allow us to enhance our campus facility, making it ADA inclusive and accommodating for public access, and our ability to deliver informative and impactful conservation programming.
As part of the application, NJSOC is required to perform public outreach to its constituent base and a broader audience, in the form of a survey, about NJSOC’s plans to utilize grant funding from the program.
