David DeWitt received his B.S. in Science and Math Education from Oregon State University. He has also completed numerous vocational courses and earned a Genomics Program Certificate from Rutgers University.
David’s summer work experience is extensive in the “outdoor” environmental field. After his experience was submitted to the state of New Jersey, he was issued a standard teaching certificate as a “Teacher of Environmental Occupations.” David also holds standard certificates for teaching Science and Mathematics for grades K-12.
During high school, David spent summers and most weekends at the School of the Outdoors, working as maintenance and program staff. He has worked for several summers with the New Jersey Park Service at Swartswood State Park and served as an interpretive ranger for the National Park Service for three summers.
David has experience as a mucker in a zinc mine and has cleared land for a peat strip mine.
During his college years, he worked as a reforestation technician for Oregon State University’s School of Forestry and as a field technician for the School of Botany.
David also has experience working as a front chain on a forest surveying crew and as a logger, setting chokers for Simpson Timber Company while in college. He was a member of the Sussex County Shade Tree Commission for a decade.
David has volunteered as part of a timber framing crew for the National Park Service at Millbrook Village. For several years, he has also given educational tours for students at Sterling Hill Mining Museum.
