SUMMARY:In the Footsteps of Galileo
DESCRIPTION:Observe Jupiter just as Galileo did in the early 1600’s. Will you arrive at the same startling conclusions that rocked the world as he did?\n\n\nAfter an indoor presentation and activity we will take our telescopes outside (weather permitting) and share stellar views of Jupiter’s Galilean moons\, Saturn’s icy rings\, and a first quarter Moon as they parade across the southern sky. \nYour travel guide to the solar system is Bob Reichman. As an informal astronomy educator\, he visits schools\, libraries and science centers edutaining audiences and sharing telescopic views of the Sun and night sky. “Ranger Bob” is a speaker and telescope wrangler at Acadia National Park’s annual Night Sky Festival and is currently on a deep space mission working with a consortium of the Girl Scouts\, NASA\, SETI and the Astronomy Society of the Pacific. \nThis event will take place on either Friday\, November 12th OR Saturday\, November 13th. Participants will be notified of the date selected by November 10th\, based on the most favorable forecast. Plan to keep BOTH dates open when you register. This is a rain or shine event; the indoor activity will take place even if skies are not clear for viewing. \nThis program is suitable for adults and families with children in grade 3 or above. Be sure to dress warmly! \nIf you have any difficulty with the registration process\, please let us know so we can help!
